So your part way through your competition preparation, your head is clear, confidence and self-worth are high and you’re easily negotiating all the small daily hurdles life invariably throws at you? No, this doesn’t sound like one of your average days, then read on to find out what habits and beliefs may be standing in your way to an exhilarating competition experience (and life).
At this point in your preparation, you may be thinking things like:
- Am I going to be ready on time?
- Should I be doing something different with my diet, training, supplements?
- Am I going to look like an idiot on stage?
- Will people laugh at me?
- And for the girls, Am I going to fall ass over in these frickin’ heels?
The biggest question which you may be asking yourself is ‘Why am I doing this?’. Why is it all your friends are out partying and your opting for an early night because your exhausted. It’s Saturday night man, let me have a piece of (or a whole) pizza already.
So the big question is “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?”
If you haven’t thought about it lately, it may be time to put pen to paper and answer some simple questions:
- Why are you competing?
- How will you feel once you have competed?
- Are you just doing this for yourself or for someone else?
- Why is stepping on stage in the best shape of your life important to you?
- How will it change your attitude towards yourself?
If you haven’t yet established a clear WHY yet, then it is likely you are going to be having to continually find some more Motivation to power you through your day. The Motivation pathway, if you haven’t already experienced for yourself, is a doomed roller coaster of emotions. When you establish a clear WHY, then Motivational top-up will no longer be needed.
WHATS HOLDING YOU BACK
Sometimes people struggle to establish a clear WHY that is compelling enough to keep them moving in the direction of their goals. Often some of our long held beliefs, values and even our perceptions of who we take ourselves to be are in-congruent with our new physique goals. By identifying what old habits of thinking and being are holding us back we have the opportunity to be free of them and free to fully embrace our new goals and challenges.
